Bio-Heavy Oil
Business > Bio-Heavy Oil
Bio-heavy oil is a liquid biofuel capable of replacing bunker C oil, a petroleum fuel.
It has the advantage of reducing the cost of the desulfurization process and using existing facilities to replace heavy oil that relies on imports.
SK EcoPrime supplied bio-heavy oil to a power generation plant/company in March 2014 for the first time, and is steadily gaining ground as the nation’s largest bio-energy producer.
This is a mandatory system requiring power producers with power generation facilities larger than a certain size (500MW) to supply more than a certain ratio of their power from renewable sources, and the bio-heavy oil market is expected to expand along with the increase in RPS mandatory supply.
